This river shows pollution from mining gold in rainforests. Large scale mining operations result in significant deforestation, open remote forest to transient settlers who introduce new diseases to local indigenous populations. An example are the Yanomani Indians of northern Brazil and Venezuelan garimpeiros - illegal Brazilian miners.
