March 21st is Missouri's
"Bird Appreciation Day"
"Swoop" is an eagle-owl; the largest specie of owl in the world. "Talon" is a spectacled owl; the largest rainforest owl in the America's.
We have two very popular owl programs which teach about owl behaviours, owl abilities and owl survival; please read about them to the right of this sidebar.
The eagle-owl in flight is the same kind as Swoop but belongs to our friends at Turbary Woods Owl & Bird of Prey Sanctuary in England. Our thanks to them for permission to use their video. {Video by Slowmo High Speed Camera, UK}
Owl Prowl - Introductory Study Program about Owls and their environment
A 3’ x 4’ poster of 20 owls hidden in the forest is studied. Participants have a black and white version of the poster on a placemat. Each camouflaged owl must be located and circled. Also within this program is a hidden bird of prey word search, and a grid with our two owls drawn within the squares of the grid. Each square section of the grid is duplicated by small markings within it on the placemat. Once each section has been duplicated, the two owls have been drawn perfectly.
Take Flight With an Eagle-Owl - Watch and learn about Owl habits and habitats
Swoop (an option of having Talon accompany him is available) mystifies audience participants by flying over their heads and landing on his perch. Everyone learns about an owl’s silent flight and other fascinating, mind-boggling phenomena about owls. You leave with an intense respect for owls after understanding them better. You will understand and marvel at their incredible hearing and eyesight.
THESE OWLS OFTEN ACCOMPANY OWL PROGRAMS AT MARTHA LAFITE NATURE SANCTUARY IN LIBERTY, MO. Check our Events page for listings of these. To learn about the varied habitat within 100 acres of hiking area at Martha LaFite, visit them at: http://www.naturesanctuary.com/
